Dustin Richardson shines in his Double-A debut

(Norwich, CT) - The last regular season start for Dustin Richardson came on August 30, 2007 when he fired five hitless innings for the Lancaster JetHawks against the Giants High-A affiliate. On Monday night, the lefty held the Giants Double-A club hitless over four innings, leading Portland to a 7-3 victory in the series opener.

Richardson won his Double-A debut, tossing five strong innings on two hits, one run while walking three but fanning ten. The former Texas Tech product fanned the first five batters faced and struck out the side twice.

Joey Martinez (0-1) struggled in his first Double-A appearance, lasting 1 and 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs (3 earned) on six hits and two walks. Connecticut's defense committed four errors - three came during a four-run second inning.

Sean Danielson led Portland's 10-hit attack, going 4-for-6 with 2 runs scored. Ryan Khoury and Iggy Suarez each drove in two runs for the Dogs.

Kyle Jackson and Mike James combined to pitch three perfect innings. Beau Vaughan allowed two runs in the ninth inning on Travis Ishikawa's two-run double. Portland's bullpen has allowed three runs in 18 innings pitched.

Aaron Bates gave Portland a quick first inning lead with an RBI single to left field. During a 4-run second inning, Khoury, Suarez and Tony Granadillo added RBI's.

The Sea Dogs drew eight walks offensively while their pitchers fanned 16. With the victory, Portland clinched a winning roadtrip with two games left. Righty Justin Masterson gets the start on Tuesday for Portland.
