A MASTERFUL DAY FOR PORTLAND, BEAT THE METS 6-2!
Portland improves to 8-1 on the road!
(Portland, ME) - Justin Masterson (1-0) blanked the Mets for five innings and Tony Granadillo knocked in three runs, giving the Sea Dogs a 6-2 win over the Mets at NYSEG Stadium. Portland earned their seventh straight win and improved to 8-1 on the road. Masterson allowed four hits, two walks and matched a career high in strikeouts with 10. Kyle Jackson and Hunter Jones closed out the victory for Portland. Jones yielded three hits one run over 2 and 2/3 innings but earned his third save of the year. Portland touched Jonathon Niese (1-1) for five runs in the fourth inning but only one was earned. Jay Johnson knocked in the first run thanks to an error by third baseman Daniel Murphy. With two outs, Iggy Suarez picked up an infield single but it scored Mark Wagner from second base. Suarez beat the pitcher to the bag on a ground ball hit to the first baseman. Later in the inning, Sean Danielson delivered an RBI single and Tony Granadillo knocked in two with a double. Granadillo finished the day 2-for-5 and added his 3rd RBI in the 9th inning off German Marte. Binghamton had 11 hits, picking up nine hits in the last five innings but went 1-for-9 with runners-in-scoring position. The Sea Dogs look for the 4-game sweep on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Righty Matt Goodson will make his second start of the season for Portland. Notes...Portland has scored first in seven straight games...Masterson lowered his ERA to 0.95 - all 10 strikeouts came swinging...Granadillo entered the game 1-for-32 but went 2-for-5.
