TODD CLAUS - Manager

Todd ClausTodd Claus replaces Ron Johnson as the Sea Dogs manager in 2005. Johnson was named the manger for Triple-A Pawtucket. The 2005 season will be the fourth season as a minor league manager for Claus, the second in the Red Sox organization, and the first at the Double-A level. Claus, 35, managed the Single-A Sarasota Red Sox in 2004 and posted a 76-61 (.555) record.

Prior to joining the Red Sox organization in 2004, Claus spent his entire baseball career in the Anaheim Angels system. He spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as the manager of the Angels Single-A team in Cedar Rapids. In 2002, he posted an 81-58 record and led the team to the playoffs for first time since 1997, capturing the West Division Crown. Previously, Claus spent seven seasons as the hitting coach at Rookie-level Provo (2001), Boise (1999-2000, 1995-1996), Double-A Midland (1998) and Single-A Cedar Rapids (1997). The Endicott, NY native was also an Angels scout for three years (1999-2001).

Claus signed with the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on June 15, 1991 and began his playing career at Rookie-level Boise. He spent three seasons in the Angels minor league system as a second baseman, reaching as high as Double-A in 1993.

Claus is a graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He, his wife Kim, and son Trey reside in Wellington, FL.

Russ MormanRuss Morman, 42, returns to Portland for his second season as the Sea Dogs Hitting Coach and third season in the Red Sox organization. Morman spent the 2003 season as the Red Sox Single-A Augusta Manager. Prior to joining the Red Sox organization, Morman worked in the Florida Marlins organization where he spent two seasons as the manager of the Single-A Kane County Cougars. In 2001 he led Kane County to the Midwest League Championship and was named Midwest League Manager of the Year. He has a 211-202 record in three seasons as a minor league manager. Morman played 12 years of professional baseball, and was an International League All-Star, and played parts of nine seasons in the Major Leagues with the White Sox, Royals, and Marlins.

FERNANDO ARROYO - Pitching Coach

Fernando ArroyoThe 2005 season will be Arroyo’s first season in the Red Sox organization and first season at the Double-A level. He has spent the last seven years as a coach in the Oakland Athletics organization, spending four seasons with the Oakland affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League (1999-2000, 2002-2003), one season with Short Season Single-A Visalia Oaks (2001), and last season as the pitching coach of the Single-A Kane County Cougars.

Arroyo, a right handed pitcher, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 10th round of the 1970 Amateur Draft. He made his Major League debut with the Tigers on June 28, 1975, kicking off a major league career that would last for parts of nine seasons. He posted a career record of 24-37 with a 4.42 ERA with the Tigers (1975-1979), Twins (1980-1982), and the Athletics (1982, 1986). Arroyo, 52, was born in Sacramento, California; he now makes his home in Mesa, Arizona.

Arroyo replaces Bob Kipper who remains in the Red Sox organization as the pitching coach at Single-A Capital City.

MASAI TAKAHASHI - Trainer

Masai Takahashi joins the team in 2005 as the team’s trainer. Takahashi replaces Lee Slagle, who is now the trainer with the Red Sox Single-A Wilmington Blue Rocks. Takahashi was the trainer at Single-A Sarasota in 2004, his first season in the Red Sox organization. Prior to joining the Red Sox chain, he was an intern in the Yankees organization and also worked for the Hiroshima Carp of the Japanese League.
